On 14 September 2025, under the framework of the European Cooperation Project (ECP5) ‘European Network of Authenticities’, the municipality of Riga became the third certified Latvian ‘Authenticity’.
As kick-off project event, the Latvian Patent Office participated in the Fathers’ Day event organized by the Čiekurkalns local community, one of Riga’s neighborhoods. This initiative marked the first activity through which the Riga State City Municipality engaged in the Authenticitycities Network. By joining local community events, the Office is reaching families, young people, and local entrepreneurs directly in their neighborhoods, the most effective way to raise awareness. Visitors at the event had the opportunity to explore examples of counterfeit goods, take part in interactive games, and receive practical information on the protection of trademarks, designs, inventions, and geographical indications.
Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia, situated at the mouth of the Daugava River on the Baltic Sea. As the largest city in the Baltic States, it serves as the country’s main political, economic, and cultural center, as well as a key transportation and trade hub in Northern Europe.
The city is deeply rooted in cultural and historical traditions and plays a central role in shaping Latvia’s cultural identity. Riga is home to leading national institutions, including the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, the National Library of Latvia, and several major universities, alongside a vibrant independent arts scene.
Riga’s urban landscape is remarkable for its architectural diversity, from the medieval Old Town to its wooden architecture and grand 19th–20th century boulevards. Above all, the city is internationally renowned for its exceptional collection of Art Nouveau buildings, among the richest in Europe. The historic center of Riga, with its unique architectural heritage, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
As a certified Authenticity, a series of IP-related awareness-raising activities will took place locally during 2025 and 2026 in Riga.
