Under the framework of the EUIPO’s European Cooperation Projects, a memorandum of understanding was signed at the Town Hall of Banská Bystrica on 29 September 2021 between the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic (IPO SR), the Municipality of Banská Bystrica and the Financial Administration of the Slovak republic.
Banská Bystrica – a candidate for the title of City of Culture 2022 and proud owner of the title of the European City of Sport – is a city in central Slovakia, and with over 76 000 inhabitants it is the sixth most populous municipality in Slovakia.
Banská Bystrica was an important mining centre from the 13th century when the silver and copper mines supplied much of the European market. The most important sectors of the local economy are now timber, manufacture of textiles, paper, metal products and cement. The municipal strategy of economic development envisages Banská Bystrica as a regional centre of tourism, services, administration and entrepreneurship.
