On 2 November 2022, the city of Targovishte (Bulgaria) became the 3rd bulgarian certified ‘Authenticity’ of the European Network of Authenticities (European Cooperation Project 8). The others bulgarian certified cities are the Authenticities of Sofia and Plovdiv.
Following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Municipality of Targovishte, over the next 2 years, a series of IP-related awareness-raising activities will take place in the newly certified Authenticity.
Targovishte is the administrative and economic capital of Targovishte Province. The city is a cultural centre and, in 2000, ruins of an ancient Roman town called Missionis were unearthed nearby.
Targovishte is also home to one of the largest glass factories in Europe and has one of Bulgaria’s largest wine production factories.
This European Cooperation Project aims to raise awareness among local policymakers, businesses and, ultimately, the European public of both the value of IP and the damage caused by counterfeiting in European cities.
