On 21 December 2022, the city of Burgas (Bulgaria) became the 4th bulgarian certified ‘Authenticity’ of the European Network of Authenticities (European Cooperation Project 8). The others bulgarian certified cities are the Authenticities of Sofia, Plovdiv and Targovishte.

Following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Municipality of Burgas, over the next 2 years, a series of IP-related awareness-raising activities will take place in the newly certified Authenticity.

Burgas is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, strategically located on the Black Sea coast, at the Eastern border of the European Union. The city is an important industrial, transport, cultural and tourist centre, with a busy international airport and an important maritime and train station. The Port of Burgas is the largest port in Bulgaria, and Burgas Airport is the second most important in the country. Burgas also hosts annual national exhibitions and international festivals and has a vibrant student population of over 6,000 that add to the city's appeal. Furthermore, Burgas is the centre of the Bulgarian fishing and fish processing industry

This European Cooperation Project aims to raise awareness among local policymakers, businesses and, ultimately, the European public of both the value of IP and the damage caused by counterfeiting in European cities.
