On 24 November 2025 Ciudad Real joined the European Network of Authenticities as the 4th Authenticity in Spain. Following an agreement signed between the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the Municipality of Ciudad Real, a series of IP-related awareness-raising activities will took place locally.
Ciudad Real, the capital of its province in the Castilla‑La Mancha region, stands out for a unique blend of cultural heritage and a diversified economy. Culturally, the city preserves medieval-era architecture, such as the ancient city walls and the iconic Puerta de Toledo, along with historic churches and a central plaza that reflect its long history as a royal foundation.
Museums, historic streets, and its connection to the broader legendary landscape of “La Mancha” help sustain a distinct regional identity and attract visitors.
On the economic side, agriculture remains a backbone: vineyards, cereals, olives and olive oil are traditional staples, supported by the region’s fertile plains. Over time, agriculture has been complemented by agri-food processing and other industries.
More recently, tourism and services have grown in importance: cultural heritage, gastronomy, and regional festivals draw interest, and the tourism sector has become a meaningful source of employment and economic vitality.
