Under the framework of the EUIPO’s European Cooperation Projects, a memorandum of understanding was signed on 21 December 2022 between the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria (BPO) and the Municipality of Burgas. Through this memorandum, the city of Burgas, in Bulgaria, was certified as an official ‘Authenticity’.

Burgas is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, strategically located on the Black Sea coast, at the Eastern border of the European Union.
The city is an important industrial, transport, cultural and tourist centre, with a busy international airport and an important maritime and train station.
The Port of Burgas is the largest port in Bulgaria, and Burgas Airport is the second most important in the country.
Burgas also hosts annual national exhibitions and international festivals and has a vibrant student population of over 6,000 that add to the city's appeal.
Furthermore, Burgas is the centre of the Bulgarian fishing and fish processing industry

As a certified Authenticity, a series of IP-related awareness-raising activities took place locally during 2023 and 2024 in Burgas.
